Central Interceptor Link Sewer C Dundale to Miranda Pipejacking Drive optimisation
Bhargava Jinluka (GAJV) presented an overview of the differences between slurry and earth pressure balance tunnel boring machines and then dove into the decisions behind, and the work involved to omit a proposed temporary works shaft and undertake the longest micro-tunnelling drive on the project.
Central Interceptor Link Sewer C pipejacking works originally included five drives with the longest drive from May Road to Haycock (970m). GAJV identified an opportunity to omit Whitney Street shaft by undertaking approximately 1187m of continuous pipe jacking from Dundale shaft to Miranda shaft.
GAJV undertook a detailed risk assessment and multiple drills considering various emergency scenarios to demonstrate the capability to WSL and Worksafe for safe execution of the longest pipejacking in New Zealand using EPB mTBM.
This presentation described the planning and preparation works, emergency drills undertaken for required approvals and benefits achieved from the removal of the shaft.
